But on the other hand, because of who they are forced to deal with on a daily basis, DMV workers, like policemen and attorneys, are readily beset by a dim and jaded view of humanity. They struggle to overcome the sinking notion that the population at large is a bunch of lying thieving narcissistic whiners.

Oh wait, we ARE!

AAA can renew my driver's license? No standing in line, etc?

I've never heard that our AAA office here can do that, but I'll sure be checking on it! thanks for the tip

some states have allowed you to renew by mail or online now - they send you a sticker for your license.

We do that for our car license plates. But for renewing your drivers license, as far as I know, you have to physically show up at their office and stand in their line forever and ever.

The last time I went there, the line was out the door after it had snaked around the room at least 6 times. Literally. And then this guy shows up and gets in line behind me and immediately starts going on and on about seeing "them". He's pointing up at the ceiling and especially at the corners. Then he asks if I see them. I'm like, "What?!" I forget what he called whatever he was 'seeing' but whatever it was, it was obvious the guy was looney-tunes. I thought at first that maybe he was acting in order to get the rest of us to leave so he could move up faster. But looking at his face, we all knew this was no act. So I asked about it when I got to the front of the line. The woman told me he comes in often and that there is nothing they can do. They have to let him get the tags or whatever else it is that he wants. They're the DMV, not doctors. Oh heavens! That means they're letting this looney out on the streets to drive!! What if he 'sees' one of those things in front of him and decides to run it down!!

Such judgments are reserved for members of the human race. DMV workers are not human.

Last year when I went to get a new sticker for my plates, I was pulling into the DMV parking lot and a cop pulled me over and gave me a ticket. He knew I was turning into the DMV because he didn't put on his lights until after I turned on my left turn signal and pulled into the parking lot...tv

In our state, we don't renew our driver's license until we are 65. My daughter turned 18 and she won't go back for a new dl until she is 65! Pretty cool. We don't have to spend much time at the DMV.
