I just sent an email to my Senators and Congressman asking if this would be an impeachable offense or not. I've spoken with my Congressman personally on one occasion he called to respond to a question I asked about gas and oil prices. Very personable.
This man has declared war on the US, he is an enemy of the US, therefore the military should take him OUT!!! Did I make myself clear???
If not, ask the folks at FORT HOOD, TX, they can make is clear for you.

I find this to be quite disturbing. An American President authorizing the killing of an American citizen without due process. Has this been done before?
Probably. But not so that it made headlines I am thinking...
Firstly, we aren't loved over there and to make them think worse of us would be a hard thing to do.
But diplomacy could be tried. Request the Yemeni government to extradite a US citizen for trial. We are already giving them financial aid in their own war with terror. We could up the ante, or begin imposing sanctions.
But again, this is all an aside. The guy, scumbag though he may be, is our scumbag. And as such he has rights under the constitution that the executive branch has no right to remove from him.
It would have been no different than if Bill Clinton had authorized Tim McViegh to be hunted down and shot.
Geographical location does nothing to diminish the rights of a citizen who allegedly commits a crime. As a citizen the man has rights to due process no matter where he lives.
You make good points, John. However, you are suggesting doing in the shadows what I recommend in the light. Let the bad guys know we don't take murdering lightly. Our friends will love us, our enemies will be very afraid!!

Sure it does... But I guess ya can fall back on technicality all that you want. The real issue comes down to, "do we kill this guy or let him live." I think with the precedent Obama has set toward terrorists its safe to say that he would have taken any alternative route if he could have. So apparently those are really the only two choices he had, kill him there or let him live there. I can speculate as to why there aren't more choices... but I don't know. You can speculate as to there possibly being more choices... but you don't know.
What we do know is that this president has done almost everything he has to make sure that terrorists are tried in court. If he could have found a way for this guy to be tried in court don't ya think he would have?

Yeah. Terrorists who have no rights under the constitution.
It would be nice if the world was all black and white. Gray areas are so inconvenient. However, the man's right to due process is fairly clear. The rest is, well, it is what it is.
Of course to put the shoe on the other foot, if Bush was doing this you would probably be argueing my point for me.

That I would have! But I'm not a naive teenager anymore... I'm naive 20something year old.
Like I said though. The real issue isn't whether to kill this guy there or in a trial here. I can't think of one president that wouldn't rather have him tried and executed here. The real issue is whether we kill him or let him live. If you say kill him then I'm goina say theres apparently only one realistic way to do that and it's not by trial...

Yes, my main point is that the same action taken to kill him could be taken to capture him. A guy like that will have a cadre of arab nutballs around him. As far as I am concerned they are disposable. If the guy gets killed during the attempt. Bummer for him. We tried.
But if we capture and try him publically, we have shown that we hold to the principles of our constitution... we win a moral victory. If we just kill him, we show that our rights aren't all that inalienable after all.
Personally I could care less about the guy, he is a terrorist scumbag that needs to reap what he has sown expeditiously.
It is the whole execution of a citizen by executive order thing that I find repugnant.

Or you could read between the lines and realize that for whatever reasons, capturing him in that fashion would have some major reprecussions that killing him would not.

Yours is a voice of reason, and I tend to adjust my view to that reason. Thanks.
