Hey "I" won't criticize your conviction to not wear shorts.
There are very few personal convictions that I will take issue with, it is only when they become broad based teachings from an organization (or even within the local church -in which case, I only have issue with THAT church, not the org), that I have a problem.
(I guess there is only ONE "personal conviction" that I have found myself in conflict with...... <drum rolls>, it is wedding rings. Some get greatly offended to see one, but I feel an equal conviction to keep it ON, and find it hard to cowtail to those who feel it is the mark of the beast in their presence.)

I respect others and their convictions as long as they keep them personal and don't try to judge me by them. I don't judge people by unimportant stuff like jewelry, caffeine, hair length, clothing, nicotine, etc. and I expect them to give me the same respect for my convictions.

One Sunday night at our ALJC church, in his Sunday evening message, our pastor stated, "The Bible says that a man is supposed to be clean shaven." I said aloud, "I'd like to know where that is in the Bible." The pastor either didn't hear me or chose to ignore me. My wife grabbed my arm and gave me "that look" (husbands and children know what "that look" is). That was probably in 1978. We never went back.

You need to check out the story in the Gospels where it tells how Jesus was up late that night washing His disciples' feet and praying and so he had several hours of "stubble" that the Roman soldiers plucked out with the tweezers they carried around in their pockets. That fulfilled Isaiah 50:6.

I guess if they would have had No Facial Hair churches in those days, I guess Jesus would have not been allowed to get on the platform and do his work.

That was back 30 years or so.
A couple of the young men had been "sat down" because of facial hair (beards). I was older than those young guys. I had just turned 40 and had resigned my position as sectional youth leader because I was 40. I grew a mustache because I thought that maybe if Bro. Ellis had a mustache, some in the church would think it was acceptable. I guess I was wrong. When I heard the "clean shaven" thing in the sermon I thought "what are we doing? where are we going?" and felt like I could no longer be a part of it.
The man that preached that was a good man. I don't know if he really believed that was in the Bible, or if he was saying it hoping that others would think it was in the Bible, or if he meant that "facial hair" was worldly and therefore contrary to the Bible. I never asked him and we never discussed it. Years later when he became ill I visited him in the hospital and prayed for him and was received cordially by him and his family. I later went to his funeral. I still consider him a good man, a good pastor, and a good preacher. I just don't agree with him on that (and some other issues).
