It was absolutly beautiful. I was impressed with the talent and precision of the thousands of people who had a part in it. It was neat that they had that 9 year old boy (survivor of the earthquake) beside YoMing (sp?) marching in.

I just love the Olympics! Can't wait for the gymnastics!

I guess it shouldn't be a surprise that the opening ceremony would be spectacular.

China is spending about $44 billion to put these Olympics together.

I watched some of it last night, but only because my son wanted to watch it and I was letting him do so in the living room where I stayed for about an hour. It was interesting. Some of it was enjoyable and some of it was a little weird to me. I admit I heckled what I saw, but it is only in my nature to enjoy heckling. They were fantastic at making optical illusions... that is certain.

At the same time, I was also disgusted with the whole thing, thinking that they forced people out of their homes for the spectacle and, in general, keep their people under such oppression with their overkill of censorship, not allowing them more than one child, etc...

I also thought it a load of baloney when they claimed that the children they presented in the ceremony were referred to as their "average" children and not their best.

I agree with what you are saying, however, when it comes to the Olympics I love to put on my rose colored glasses

and enjoy the athelets.

I think these atheletes are the most amazing display of human strength and beauty. God did a good job on all of them!

Call me homophobic but the body suits the US men swimmers wear look really gay. Speedo's aren't much better I guess, the new ones look like something my wife would wear. Not very stud-like.

From what I understand the new suit are a lot better.

They have a patent pending on a structural element that can improve a swimmer's time by decreasing the force water exerts on swimmers, called "drag," by 10 percent when incorporated into the swimsuit design.

The new element, called a trip-wire, or turbulator, alters the fluid dynamics of water as it flows over and around the swimmer. How drag acts on a body moving through water plays an important role in the amount of energy a competitor must exert to cover a specific distance: less drag, less energy required, quicker finish.

Yeah, I know It cuts down on friction and all that. It may cut down on drag but I still think it looks like drag.
