Re: Whats the longest you have fasted?

I lasted for almost 4 days on just water. I could have went longer (my goal was 10 days), but I got the worst heartburn that last day and couldn't take it. I ate a whole watermelon, lol!!!! Didn't feel so well afterward.....

I have tried a couple of times to fast again but I can't do it. The worst part of it all was the extreme weakness that I felt and of course the heartburn.

Re: Whats the longest you have fasted?

We used to do regular 3 day fasts without water back when I was younger and my metabolism didn't go into a coma. I once did seven days - the first three without water and then added water and finally fruit juice toward the end.

I never felt "cleansed" like some secular advocates of fasting recommend. I was also pretty much useless for any real labor. One problem for me, though I didn't know it until later in life, was that I have Celiac "disease" which means that I cannot eat wheat and many other grains without destroying my immune systems.

I never really found myself well or "in synch" physically so fasting probably wasn't going to set me "right" if the first thing I did when I broke the fast was to fill myself with toxins.

And the spiritual pursuit seemed to be a moving target as well. Fasting never really changed the desperate situations that troubled my heart and that I was praying over. People still died or their relationships still spiraled out of control. Basically, it never proved to be a 'pro quid quo."

I know, that's carnal - but that's also the reason why we fast. We want to see something changed. I just haven't honestly seen that work. Things change when we do something. We have to act within our environment, not retreat from it.

Re: Whats the longest you have fasted?

When I fast, I feel more in tune with the Spirit and I feel His presence much more. The last three day fast (liquids only) I felt the Spirit within me so powerfully, I didn't know what to do, except to pray.

I once read someone say, "...don't do what you hate, because all things are disclosed before heaven."

Personally, I hate fasting because toward the end of my fasts I tend to think more about what I am going to eat than about God.

Re: Whats the longest you have fasted?

First 3 days with nothing, 2 more days water only. I 1st started doing this as a babe in the Lord and it seemed to help me open up my spirit to the word. It got to the point where I could tell a difference in how much understanding I absorbed and fasting became a spiritual high for me. Definitely helped me keep my flesh under subjection, felt like I loved everybody. I even prayed for God to save the devil one time..LOL!! Fasting still helps me break ruts..

Re: Whats the longest you have fasted?

In spiritual pursuit? 5 days or a week... I don't recall exactly.

Illness? 2.5 weeks on IV only

WoW!! I take care of some very sick folks. 2.5 weeks is a long time to be on an IV only. You must have been very sick!

Did I ever mention how cute your son is in that pic? How old was he when it was taken?

Yeah, and from the looks of your avatar I think that I'd prefer to have my thoughts on the Divine rather than on what insects I might lasso with my tongue.
