You are correct that there are local congregations and even movements that teach incorrectly on this topic. If you find yourself in such a situation, and awakening to the notion that your self-respect and sanity can no longer cope with the cognitive dissonance, IT IS TIME TO CHANGE CHURCHES. If you stay, you will eventually become embittered sufficiently to fall into the sins of backbiting and inciting rebellion. It is NOT time to fling away principles with wild abandon. If anything, a time of such momentous change should be a time of deeper prayer, fasting, commitment, and meditation.

I wish I could help you. I recommend you seek a place of balance.
Thank you....I am sorry Coon...

Just a little roused up.

No problem, Coop.

I'm not angry.

These boards offer many opportunities for misunderstanding, and are a very limited means of communication.

Thanks for the apology. Water under the bridge, Bro.

I agree with you that giving is something we should never regret doing. I think that is your point, and I agree.

Have to comment on this one, brother. That is not speaking about the Christians dealing in tithes, but a contrast with the LEVITICAL PRIESTHOOD and Christ's priesthood. The men that were receiving tithes in this context were not the ministers of the Gospel.

Quote:
Heb 7:8-9 KJV And here men that die receive tithes; but there he receiveth them, of whom it is witnessed that he liveth. (9) And as I may so say, Levi also, who receiveth tithes, payed tithes in Abraham.
Men that die refer to PRIESTS who died and were replaced, in contrast to Jesus as PRIEST who never dies. So the context here does not prove the church used tithing.

But that does not mean the church CANNOT use tithing. Just use it without the legislation.

I do believe in tithing, Bro Benincasa. I just do not agree that one is cursed if one fails to do so. But God blessed and sanctioned tithing.

Note that I said the church can use tithing. I pay tithes.

Failure to pay tithes will not bring a curse on us. If we pay tithes to escape a curse, then tithes have replaced Jesus who is our escape from the curses of law. Christ became a curse for us. BUt God blesses tithing if we give in faith.

Thank you for answering my question I too believe in tithing, and offerings in the New Testament. Brother Blume how do you teach tithing in the New Covenant?

Do you believe if a person gives more or over ten percent they will be blessed?
