I believe that's correct. It wasn't until after tobacco was brought to Europe that Sephardic Jews began using it. In fact, I think if you study the history, Jews became mass producers of the stuff.

If Jesus ever partook in any substance other than wine I'd imagine it would have been something like khat, which is customarily chewed as men socialize after a large meal. But still...in my mind even this is debatable.
