Re: We're Not Putting X-Mas Trees Up!

So let's think.... Would it simply be best to follow what God gave or the pagans? hmmmmm

Here you are saying "has been made a part of ones worship of the true and living God".

Of course no one is worshiping the tree... that would be ridiculous to even suggest such.

Then here you admit no one is worshipping the tree.

So the first paragraph you say it has been made a part of our worship, then the next you admit we are not worshipping the tree.

The issue is the tree is it not?

No one I know is putting up a tree in any form of worship.

Have I made it a little clearer?

I will say D4T I appreciate your walk and respect your beliefs, that is not my issue. I just don't get where folks think others that don't agree with them are worshipping a tree???
Singing is part of our worship yet we do not worship songs.
Prayer is part of our worship and yet we do not worship prayer.
Fasting is part of our worship and yet we do not worship fasting.
The remembrance of Christ's sacrifice on the cross is part of our worship and yet, in all of the instances, our worship is to our Christ and not to the methods by which we offer our worship.

It may be that you do not feel that a remembrance such as Christmas, easter etc is a part of your worship to God.

i do... When I remember his sacrifice through the sacrament I view that as worship.

If you do not then we have found the crux of our misunderstanding.

I saw that scripture in Jeremiah 10 around 2005 and I never looked back! This is my second xmas in an indep assembly that doesn't celebrate that holiday/holy day, and it is so liberating to me to not be at the UPC assembly where it was celebrated for the first few years I was saved and have to keep quiet!
In fact, it was last night that me and my sister were looking at our mutual church friends thru her facebook (I don't have one, so I look thru her's) and we saw a young married couple with a baby on the way, and I know that the wife was raised in a house that didn't celebrate xmas, but they had put up a tree and it stirred something in me. The grandchild of her parents will be in a home with that holiday/holy day and its symbols, and if I know the wife's parents, they're not intruding, they're probably just praying and beng patient, and I join with them, hoping that what they taught their daughter about xmas will not die with her, but will go on and pass to another generation.
Brethren, we're getting to a day where it's harder and harder to hold this truth up, commercialism is rampant these days and there is so much desire to give in, but I thank GOD for being called out of the darkness, into HIS light, and I know that if I touch not the unclean thing or learn the way of the heathen, I will stand before HIM one day and HE'll welcome me in!
I am so excited this holiday/holy day season to proclaim the Truth of GOD's Word, and I hope to hear from others on AFF who will be doing the same and what your feelings and experiences are concerning this holiday/holy day.

Hmm, you won't have a Christmas tree, but you post on the internet?

Do you watch television?

Of course, I celebrate Christ birth at Christmas time, knowing we don't have the exact date. Celebrating with the trimmings does not IMO equal pagan worship.

Easter is a time we celebrate Jesus death and resurrection, it has nothing to do with the hiding of eggs.

I think why you do things is more important that what you do. We can do or not do anything with the wrong motive.

But if God convicts me of it, then I would not do it, but He has not and I have celebrated this way for many, many years. And my husband would love it since he doesn't like to celebrate Christmas because of the gifts.

I just find it odd that people will take an obscure scripture from Jeremiah that doesn't even apply to Christmas trees, build a doctrine on it and call it pagan, but they'll surf the internet and watch television - thereby shooting the "I will set no evil thing before my eyes" comparison right out of the water.

Clearer for you?

Re: We're Not Putting X-Mas Trees Up!

Who cares? I grew up without Christmas, and now it's my FAVORITE time of the year. I LOVE decorating my house, giving my children gifts, telling my children about the KIND Catholic monk, Nicholas, and otherwise being the good Gentile Christian that I am!!!!

This is one area I really resented about my childhood. I couldn't wait to institute the Holidays into our home. We not only didn't celebrate Christmas, but my Dad made it a very unpleasant time of year with all the arguing and debating and constant talking about how bad it was. Yes, this is one area where I have rebelled against my upbringing, and I'm HAPPY about it.

That's how I feel about it in a nutshell.

P.S. I also eat bacon and rare steaks.

My TV isn't hooked up. I post on the internet and I have a Christmas tree. And I'm not going to hell. How'bout you?

I wish you would tell us how you really feel about it.

It is my very favorite time of the year also. I love the cooking, family get togethers, lights, and beautiful colors and songs. Most folks usually seem to be in a happier mood during the holidays.
