Re: would you go to law against anyone?

I think that under certain circumstances I'd be hard pressed not to take a brother or sister before the law. However, I must be honest, I believe that Paul's admonishion not to take a brother or a sister before the law and the courts is in keeping with the concept of Christian forgiveness. If we are wronged, no matter how severe, I think the Christian idea is that we forgive...no matter how difficult it may be to do so.

Re: would you go to law against anyone?

I know we may feel like taking the law in our own hands but I don´t think it would be the best thing...Tempers would flare! A lawyer would keep it in the right perspective.

Little Joe Cartwright would ALWAYS try to settle it man-to-man, but if that didn't work, a shootout was the likely outcome.

Re: would you go to law against anyone?

Not sure I would sue a brother or sister, but I am presently suing my employer for terminating my insurance coverage without notification.

Left me holding a $50,000 hospital bill.

I do believe there are occasions when lawsuits are permissible. To me, the intent of the admonition deals more with Christians fighting each other, and choosing to air their grievances in front of unbelievers.

But, I think a lot of strange things.....

We are called to be good stewards of our money and if it is a last resort, I think you would have to consider it.

For example: If a minister leaves with the churches money, I believe it is the churches responsibly to try and recover it. If he refuses to give it back then I consider him to be a theif. Is a theif a brother?

It'd be embezzlement, a crime. It's happened to a number of churches here in Phoenix over the several years I've lived here. I even heard about a church in California where the pastor basically sold the church out from underneath the congregation and tried to abscond with the proceeds. He was caught (which is how I heard of it)>

These days, it seems like we take each other to court over the silliest things. I don't want to judge people who do it, but having been involved in a couple of fairly serious lawsuits with a determined adversary that had deep pockets, my goal in life is to stay as far away from the courts as possible. And yes, I did get a law degree 20 years ago!

Re: would you go to law against anyone?

I didn't know this was concerning "lawsuits". Sorry, don't apply in my scenerio.

Well, I know you can't really file a "lawsuit" in that situation as it is a criminal problem and not a civil one. (legally speaking)

So would you go to the law and through the process of testimony or just try to resolve through the pastors office and God.... or both.
