Trump appointed by God?

I've noticed this type of thinking is getting more common. I first heard about this idea that Trump was sent by God to save America earlier this year and wrote it off as crackpots being crackpots. But I've noticed this theme or meme is gaining traction, more are picking up this idea and running with it. Certainly not a major movement, obviously, but it is definitely increasing.

One thing I've learned in life and from history is that certain people are able to generate "mass appeal". They can motivate large crowds of people who would follow such demagogues wherever they were told to go. I am talking about charismatic people who generate large crowds of genuine followers, not Astroturf rent a mobs as is common with average politicians and pundits. Hitler, Mussolini, etc etc history is full of examples.

Trump is able to generate huge crowds. He has MILLIONS of people who look at him as a harbinger of destiny, for varied reasons.

My concern is this: historically, just about EVERYBODY except Christ and maybe Ghandi with that kind of mass appeal usually take a turn for the worse.
