Lemon v. Kurtzman - 403 U.S. 602 (1971)

  • The law or state policy must have been adopted with a neutral or non-religious purpose.
  • The principle or primary effect must be one that neither advances nor inhibits religion.
  • The statute or policy must not result in an “excessive entanglement” of government with religion.

Torcaso v. Watkins - 367 U.S. 488 (1961)

“We repeat and again reaffirm that neither a State nor the Federal Government can constitutionally force a person “to profess a belief or disbelief in any religion.”

OK, I'll comment.

It's a good idea. As long as the religion chosen to be official is the only true one.

I say dont let um secede, just go ahead and kick um out! and ll other states that do not support the US Constitution! We forget that the US is founded on the Constitution and Bill of Rights not on the Holy Bible or a Church.

At what point would it not become Islam? I don't believe either is going to happen, because of the already settled case law.

Actually, the Constitution does not limit a States power on having an official religion. It only limits the Federal Government's power. So they would not be violating the Constitution. However, I'm still not sure if it would be a good idea for a State to have an official religion.
