Church History recs

I'm not at all sure I'm posting this in the right place....

I'm looking for a good general church history book. I'm studying up to teach my children in the fall, so if anyone knows of one for kids that would be great, too!

I found one today in the university library - Church History in Plain Language by Bruce Shelley. Anyone familiar with it?
