Baptism question for One-Steppers

What do you think this verse means?

Acts 22:16 (King James Version)

16And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.

Does this mean that your sins are not washed away, gone, remitted.... until baptism? If not, what does it mean?
