The Bible records Jesus addressing his natural mother in a fashion consistent with His time. The angels called Mary "woman" when they met her at the tomb. In Matthew 15:28 - while praising her faith, Jesus calls the Canaanite woman by the same word.
I think you err when you try and and transpose 20th century English idioms into the 1st century manner of speech. To address a lady as "woman" in the first century was not an insult. |
