The Baptists and other non Pentecostal groups have various answers to that question which I'm sure you've heard: it's of the devil, tongues were for the apostles time, some speak in tongues while others display other gifts as evidence like prophecy when they are baptized in the Spirit...etc
If someone knowingly resisted the baptism of the Spirit then I would call that stubborness, willful resistance, and rebellion.
Why do some folks think the baptism of the Spirit is not for them? The saddest reason, in my mind, is that they are content that they are saved already and don't need to receive this gift even though it is commanded by Peter. Are they willfully disobeying the word of the Lord? Maybe.
Have you read the posts about the AOG and the percentage of those that go on to be baptized with the Holy Spirit? It's very disheartening.
Felicity, I know how you and TB teach on salvation and though I disagree, you stress the necessity of obeying
Acts 2:38 and you expect believers will attend to these things but others don't teach it as you do.
