I remember talking on the phone to a UPC pastor friend of mine from Bible College that I had not spoke to for years not long after that book came out. We had been having a great conversation until that book came up and his whole demeanor changed. He was livid. He had taken great offense at it. I remember being very surprised then I remembered how reactionary most UPC folks are to their house of cards being challenged. You start tugging at one of those cards and they see the whole house shaking.
When I first read that book I remember wishing I had the money to buy one and mail it to every licensed UPC preacher. For most it would have just been a source of more fiery hold the fort preaching but for a few it would have been confirmation of what they know in their mind, hearts, and souls.

CC1 it is part of my core beliefs I make no apology for it and yes I was offended when some of our own attack what we teach. But honestly most folks in Pentecost have NEVER heard of DW-Pope-Woodruff it was like shooting a water pistol at the Sun it excited them and was interesting but the church goes on and the detractors had their 15 seconds but the church survived it.
Again I used their books to teach against their arguments and would have gladly had a public discussion with Pope a pastor offered his building but he never replied. But I was told he regretted he had written it not that he changed his mind but he felt it affected him adversely.
