Re: I Value Anonymity. Why Demand Otherwise?
I used to go by my actual name on this forum. However, years ago I had my Jeep keyed, and I was harassed by a few brothers in the church parking lot for questioning the Bush Administration's policies (I voted for President G.W. Bush against Al Gore). On the second go around, I was critical of Bush. It caused problems. So, I started using the handle "Aquila".
To request that someone disclose who they are is a form of threat. Because it can be an issue of personal safety. It can also put a chill on the freedom with which we share our views and opinions. Since some opinions aren't popular, it can even affect a career or ministry.
As a forum community, I'd recommend resisting all efforts to violate anonymity with extreme prejudice.
