Our President Lied To Us During The Campaign
During the campaign President Obama laid out his plan for increasing tax revenues. The total he said he would request was $800 billion in increased taxes. In the recent negotiations with the GOP House leadership he is demanding $1.7 trillion.
I'm afraid there's no real desire to significantly cut spending. Its all about increasing taxes. They say taxes on the wealthiest, but the wealthy don't have an additional $1.7 trillion to give. Where does he think he'll get it? Of course it will come out of our pockets. Its good to remind yourself that when government says they want something they actually will demand more. When they say they'll let go of something they will actually release less.
Its also good to read the fine print before you elect someone. But of course I read that fine print back in 2008 and told you that the economy would not get better with the policies he was proposing. Curiously, many voted against their own interests for a variety of reasons, but certainly not with an understanding of how liberalism works and how it has a dismal track record. Wisdom bids us to learn the lessons of history. When we don't, we have to relive the mistakes of the past.
2013-2016 will be even tougher on the economy if this administration gets its way with fiscal policy.
