I am willing to bet all that I have in the bank that the people you know who buy into the birther nonsense wouldn't find much respectable about the man in the first place!
So they use this nonsense as a valid reason in their minds to delegitimize him instead of trying to THINK CRITICALLY about the good and the bad about this man, his Presidency, and the actions of his Admninistration.
Normal people KNOW that the suspicions are groundless.
