Thanks, Michael. I didn't think he did it himself.

Re: Was King James a homosexual??

Most of the KJV was lifted from The Bishop's Bible and other sources.

King James did arm twisting. The main reason KJV uses baptism instead of immersion in the New Testemant is because KJ was a strong proponent of sprinkling.

Re: Was King James a homosexual??

Bit more info. The KJV was announced to all the top Greek and Hebrew scholars of the day to be a project opened for as much help as possible. Three groups gathered and each one worked on the texts and shared their results with the other groups, and they all agreed as to what should be the result.

When James I became king of England in 1603, there were two translations of the Bible in use; the Geneva Bible was the most popular, and the Bishops' Bible was used for reading in churches.

King James disapproved of the Geneva Bible because of what he considered to be seditious marginal notes on key political texts. A marginal note for Exodus 1:9 indicated that the Hebrew midwives were correct in disobeying the Egyptian king's orders, and a note for 2 Chronicles 15:16 said that King Asa should have had his mother executed and not merely deposed for the crime of worshipping an idol. The King James Version of the Bible grew out of the king's distaste for these brief but potent doctrinal commentaries. He considered the marginal notes to be a political threat to his kingdom.

At a conference at Hampton Court in 1604 with bishops and theologians, the king listened to a suggestion by the Puritan scholar John Reynolds that a new translation of the Bible was needed. Because of his distaste for the Geneva Bible, James was eager for a new translation. "I profess," he said, "I could never yet see a Bible well translated in English; but I think that, of all, that of Geneva is the worst."

The KJV ironically drew largely from the Geneva Bible (minus the marginal notes that had enraged him).

I wonder how they ranked them in those days?

I wonder if having favor with King James was part of that process?

Re: Was King James a homosexual??

BTW, Lebron James is very much heterosexual from all indications.

James I of England was buried in Westminster Abbey near his wife who had predeceased him by four years - years that he himself spent in a rather sickened condition.

The allegations of homosexuality only came 25 years after James' death. They were made in a tract penned by a man who had been excluded from James' court over some matter. The tract drew very little interest until relatively modern times when homosexual writers have used it to justify their life style.

The fact that James I, had many powerful enemies in life and faced the severest sorts of accusations and criticisms, but never a charge of homosexuality until such a late date, seems to testify to his heterosexual "orientation."

That, and his many mistresses.

*** Additional info: The exact resting place of James I was never recorded. In the Nineteenth Century, an historical review of Westminster Abbey was conducted and James' sarcophagus was found within the tomb of Henry VII and his consort/queen within the sprawling Abbey. Henry VII was the first of the House of Tudor, and James' ancestor as well. He died 116 years before James.

According to Chick these were the greatest scholars history had ever seen.

They weren't "lightweights" - so there's really no good reason to hype them and their very nice accomplishment. Of course, that "accomplishment" was to use Tyndale's earlier work and the work of the Geneva Bible as the basis for the vast majority of their "translation" work.

I think a lot gets lost in any translation.
