The days of the week have nothing to do with a Christian celebration of any occurance within the Bible. Planets in the solar system? Are you just looking to argue just to argue? Did you read any of the thread?

Well it looks like this conversation (as you are concerned) has deteriated to spewing hot vomit of insults. I have nothing to say to you now. How would you like me to answer this? Is this what your joy to the world has done for you? It has only been a day over, and now you want to take the thread into this direction?

I'm just out to see how far EB is willing to go with it all. LOL

Justice? Mercy? Love? You need to see where you are taking this conversation. Look at yourself.

Actually each day of the week speaks honor to a pagan god. For example:
Monday - Dies lunae (from which comes the word lunar), means moon day, from which we get the shortened version, Monday.
Tuesday - Dies Martis, means mars day, after Mars, the Roman god of war. The day was known to the pagan Germans after their own god of war, Tiw (pronounced too) as Tiw's (pronounced tooz) day, from which we get Tuesday.
Wednesday - Dies mercuri, means mercury day. Woden (pronounced woe-den) was the Germanic version of the pagan god mercury, and they named the day Woden's day, from which we get Wednesday.
Thursday - Dies Jovis means Jove's day, or Jupiter's day. Thor was the Germanic version of the god Jupiter, so they called the day Thor's Day, from which we got Thursday.
Friday - Dies Veneris means Venus Day. The Germanic version of this female god was Frigg, or Freyja (pronounced fry-yah), so they called the day Freyja day, from which we got Friday.
Saturday - Dies Saturni means Saturn day, from which came Saturday. Among the Norse, to even speak the name of Odin (Woden) was to bring a blessing, therefore to say the name Wednesday (Woden's Day) is to speak a pagan blessing. Let's take a look at God's Word EB,
Exodus 23:13
13And in all things that I have said unto you be circumspect: and make no mention of the name of other gods, neither let it be heard out of thy mouth. Therefore, if we're going to be as fundamental as you're being, for consistency's sake, we have to also condemn speaking or using the very names of the days of the week.
You may not even know this EB, but your name, "Benincasa", is an an Italian "folk blessing" spoken in Southern Italy. It served as an omen name of blessing meaning, "welcome home", traditionally bestowed upon a much wanted child. So...even your name has some pagan roots.
Maybe you'd like to cease speaking the days of the week, and perhaps rename yourself a Hebrew name to avoid all pagan influence. That would lend some consistency to your position.
BUT, my position is that and idol is nothing. Some things are just cultural, be they the calendar, or be they a modern day cultural festival far removed from it's pagan roots, or a name. What you see as "pagan customs" are just an empty shell of long dead paganism, not actual pagan practice. Kinda like your name.
Oh, and please answer the question,
Do you believe that all of us are going to Hell for taking part in a cultural holiday and drawing some attention to Christ's birth on December 25th? Yes or no?

Re: We're Not Putting X-Mas Trees Up!
Speaking the name of a pagan god when you speak the name of a weekday is honouring that pagan god for that was its day, according to the purpose in naming the days of the week after these gods. Speaking the names of planets is meant to honour those gods. Be consistent and stop using the weekday names. lol

What Christian sect used pagan names of planets, week days and incorperated them into Christian worship to denote the life of Christ?
Where did they use these pagan names of planets and weekdays and used them to celebrate an event in Jesus' life?

That is not the point. The point is that referring to things that originated in paganism, and saying we are honouring those false gods by doing things the original pagans did in honour of them (although we have no intention of doing so when we repeat certain actions they did), is mistaken. Giving gifts to a false god in idol worship became giving gifts to friends and family after a few centuries. Worship is left and abandoned in the modern gift giving. Pagans intended worship to false gods when they made actions that later became traditions totally devoid of any inkling of worship. So it is only gift giving, and not worship of any kind, just as speaking the name of a day of the week that originated from a pagan god is only referring to a 24 hour period and not honouring a false god now.

Brother Blume, you must be thinking of another thread.
That is not what was being discussed her sir. We were discussing a Roman Catholic ("Christian sect") that borrowed pagan traditions and incorperated them into their celebration of an event in the Bible. Not something that is from paganism and is found on sneakers, banks, coffee shops, and dollar bills. None of those items are used to celebrate an event that is in the Bible, and had been adpoted by the church for a specific celebration dedicated to Christ.
I hope this helped.
