I will be in Pearland tomorrow for a dentist appt and should get good reception then. I hope.
Still have a TON of limbs to pick up and my back says it wants to quit.

Well, I am very sorry for all. Just glad your house is standing and you are both not injured.
My husband was saying that he just doesn't know why people build houses right on the beach when we know, at some point, a hurricane is going to come our way.

Re: Hike away from Ike?
My in laws live in Spring, TX. They went to Austin. I spoke to my mother in law on Sunday, she said they were heading back home on Moday. I have not heard from her since Sunday. I've tried calling her cell and house phone, no answer. Does anyone know the conditions in Spring. Thanks!

Re: Hike away from Ike?
I haven't heard anything bad happening in Spring. They are a good distance away from the gulf.
But I would expect most land lines are still down and many cells are not available due to higher volumes.

Re: Hike away from Ike?
My insurance company called me yesterday and said it would be another 7-10 days before an adjuster comes by. They are taking the worst first, which I agree with. She told me yesterday she talked to several families that came back to an "x" on the house. I asked her what that meant and she said that indicated a body was found.
Interesting to me not knowing if she talked to more than one or just evangelistically stated several folks she talked to yesterday, because the media is saying only 6 lost their lives in Galveston, but rumors are saying it is more.
Don't know why they would want to play it down if there is more than that, but we all know how rumors can go.
Well as much as I hate it I have to get back out picking up more debris. I am so tired of it and I am praying I can finish the worst of it today so I can head to La and get out of this heat.

A friend of ours had a tree fall on their house. It took $800 to get their yard cleaned up. So much expense in so many ways!!
Sorry you had to go through this Esther.
My husband said, "One of these days we are going to get a Cat 5 come boiling right through the middle of our town." At some point, we are all susceptible. But I would rather endure a Hurricane than an Earthquake any day. I think you just get used to your environment.
Both Ike and Katrina were poised as direct hits for us and moved north.

You must have prayed harder than we did.

LOL! Actually, in that case you don't really pray it won't hit you because you know that means it will hit someone else. We just pray that God will protect anyone involved and wait to see if you have to leave.

A friend sent this in an e-mail today:
http://www.tpicks.com/pictures%20peo...sent%20me.html
Link to a website that was sent to me today where there are some pictures from Ike….
I have two of my old customers that had houses on Tiki Island
When you see the pictures of everything on 45 South near exit 7 they lived South of there on the water…
I like the one of the guy carrying a sign “a bad day at the beach…”
Just think this was only a cat 2….
