Exactly. Hear it and "know" it.

You can be in the Walmart - hear a voice aisles away - and know whose it is. It's not much different with the voice of our Father.

I remember something Billy Cole said when he was preaching a campmeeting in Maine back several years ago now. He said that usually when God is speaking to us, it's that still small quiet voice.

Loud voices and "pressure" voices and that kind of "driving" urge we feel sometimes is usually not the Holy Ghost. That would more likely be the flesh or the enemy.

The Shepherd leads and we follow. His voice is one of authority but usually not strident, loud, demanding or forceful.

Our Master speaks and we who have spent time with Him, at His feet, listening, receiving and communicating with Him recognize the voice of the One who teaches us, leads us, directs us, admonishes us, and corrects us ---- always in love, kindness and with patience. His voice is clear. He doesn't waste words either. He's always to the point and He catches us up short sometimes with the words He speaks. He's very direct!

This is how we ought to usually speak with one another --- another way of recognizing those who truly know the Father.

I had opened this thread up to say these very same things. Here, it has already been said with even greater clarity than I could have said it.

Though there are times you may hear the voice of God which may seem audible to you, yet they are not audible. It sounds only in the spirit of man, that is addressed to the citadel of his affections. Thus, by his sanctified affections, purged by the Word of God and a life according to it, is he capable of detecting it and discerning that it is in truth the Word of the Lord coming to him.

Hbr 5:14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, [even] those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

The voice of the stranger, being many voices in the world, will appeal to affections of self and the world by which one is easily misled. However, the Word of the Lord will never mislead one.

Funny you would mention that. My pastor dad had

a little plaque hanging above his desk in his study at

their home. It hung there as long as he lived. It read,

"There's a lot we could all learn, if we were not already

convinced we knew it all". That may not be exact but

it is close. He told me that about the time he thought

he knew quite a bit about God, then he would discover

how little he did know.

All three of you are SOOOO BADDDD while sharing such wonderful memories. I am sure that if the truth were known, you each have very similar memories of your father as well!

They do.

Each of the eleven children were taught the Word of God from infancy. Their Dad taught them well.

Once I took Larry with me on a trip to Houston from Dallas. All the way down there and back, he quoted scriptures. The Word of God was so firmly planted in him that I knew he could never leave the firm foundation that was planted beneath him by their very wise Dad.

Larry, I never told you...but you blessed me more on that trip than I could have possibly blessed you.

Your foundation is strong and firm. It needs no leveling. (Private joke)
