As Long As It Is Off the Record It's Ok?
State Rep. Gene Alday, a Republican, told The Clarion-Ledger he was against increased funding for education, in particular funding to improve literacy. During his explanation, Alday said he comes "from a town where all the blacks are getting food stamps and what I call 'welfare crazy checks.' They don't work."
SO the logic is, don't fund education because all the blacks are on welfare?
And I don't know how this could have been said in any kind of context that is positive.
And and he was never supposed to have been quoted in the first place because his truer feelings were supposed to be off the record.
But then we wonder why the GOP has the perception problem it has. Things like this happen over and over and over....

well JD, imo this is because the world is satan's, and politics are firmly in the world.

What does that have to do with the discussion topic at hand?
The error here is not just about politics.

Re: As Long As It Is Off the Record It's Ok?
ok then, to rephrase it in more pointed terms, we look to our leaders expecting rational answers, when they have--prolly unbeknownst to them--entered the employ of satan, and must attempt to make sense of the senseless. The guy you reference works for people with a plainly stated goal of killing you; although of course it isn't put that way.
I know that this is not the answer you look for; but, having begun in error, all "answers" that proceed from this premise are going to be in error. Plus, i got dropped a lot as an infant...

Apparently that is not what he said...it was the article that linked that comment to funding education
"
"The interview, he just took me out of context," Alday said. "He asked for one thing and started asking another thing."
Alday elaborated in a followup story with the Clarion-Ledger.
" [Mitchell] asked me a question back to when I was in law enforcement," Alday said. "I have a way of talking and saying, 'take this off the record.'"
Alday also said he had no problem with African-Americans.
"Yes, it's true that most of the blacks in my hometown are on welfare," Alday told the newspaper. "But they're good people. I don't have anything against anybody. I'm a straight-up guy. In my little town they had little civil rights walks and I was with them. I'm with everybody.""

Wouldn't be the first time someone's comments were clipped, snipped and edited out of context.
Working with immigration, and again at my current employer, we have to take an online course dealing with the media. Both have strict instructions to not speak with media, because anything said can be made to appear differently once typed and edited.
While you're on your quarterly witch hunt, might as well call both sides out. Here are a few from an ex President, his wife and the current VP, not just some po-dunk state legislator.
Quote:
"A few years ago, (Barack Obama) would have been getting us coffee." --..Bill Clinton
|
Quote:
"I love this quote. It's from Mahatma Gandhi. He ran a gas station down in St. Louis for a couple of years. Mr. Gandhi, do you still go to the gas station? A lot of wisdom comes out of that gas station"..- Hillary Clinton, Former Secretary of State
|
Quote:
"You cannot go to a 7-11 or Dunkin Donuts unless you have a slight Indian accent." -- Joe Biden
"I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy. I mean, that's a storybook, man." --..Joe Biden
|
And from former Senate leader, Harry Reid:
Quote:
Journalists Mark Halperin and John Heilemann reported the remarks in their new book, "Game Change," which is scheduled to be in bookstores Tuesday.
The authors quote Reid as saying privately that Obama, as a black candidate, could be successful thanks, in part, to his "light-skinned" appearance and speaking patterns "with no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one."

JD - you have Republican racists and Democratic racists.
However, the media will over-report the Republican 10 to 1.
Because it furthers their agenda.
If in doubt, look at the bottom of the article you linked.
Robert Byrd says "white n******".
I don't remember any Dems saying that he should have resigned.

Yet another Democrat President...
Harry Truman: While serving as a Missouri senator, Truman referred to waiters who served at the White House as an.."army of coons"..in a letter addressed to his daughter. In a letter to his wife in 1939, Truman used the phrase "ni--er picnic day."
Let's hear your outrage, JD!

How long ago was Truman President? Anyways, he served before the great racist Democrat migration.
