At the church I used to attend, J had a bit of a rebellious streak. Nothing real bad, just a bit of a hot head and sometimes an attitude. He was always scrutinized by some of the youth. They would say stuff like "He can't stand before God and say that it was the pressures of being a pk.."
I would always take his side. Not because his behaviour was acceptable, but because he is human. He is not perfect. His father may be called of God to be a pastor, but that is his fathers calling. It is not his.

Just thought I'd chime in...

In the real world what you put up with is not a reality...

BTW, the people who attend our church pay their tithe to God, I live on a portion of it but work my rear end off at and for the church to earn it. I refuse to be "owned" by them...I am not their slave...and they do not have any right to control my private time.

But they are welcome in my home....just not uninvited unless there is an emergency situation that dictates it...but they are NOTeir WELCOME to bring their marriage stuff and bad spirits and stuff to my house...if they want counseling or prayer over demons and stuff...set up a meeting at the church.
Your uncle was Bro. O from Bon Weir?

He was my presbyter at one time. A friend of ours is the pastor there now.

I worry about raising my son (he is only 11 months old now) as a MK. I have heard so much about preacher's kids wanting nothing to do with God after they were raised because of the pressure of all that goes on in ministry. He is young now, but I would sure wouldnt want extra pressure on him to perform and to be an example to all the other kids. I hope he can grow up healthy spiritually.

Sis. O and my mom are sisters. I preached Bro. O's last revival as pastor, he and Bro. B were together in those years. My first cousin PDB was killed while they pastored in Newton...did you know her...she was awesome.

I preached alot there too in my first years preaching revivals in 1987, 1988...

I do understand the concept of drop ins and such in east Texas pastoring...we used to spend every summer in Bon Weir...i even learned to ride a bike on the dirt road that led from the old church to the house back in the early 70's...the parsonage was a revolving door....so I totally understand where you are coming from. Rural east Texas and Louisianna are the same in this way...It takes a special gift of tolerance for home invasions to pastor there for sure.

We do not have that same concept were I pastor...and niether did we have it in Houston...I'm out of the Fauss'...

Please don't let the saints talk you into un-natural expectations on your children. You set it straight...I certainly have and I do not tolerate that "PK's are the example" stuff.

We tell our children's workers, "Don't let our kids get away with something others don't get away with. But do not ever let us hear that you were more harsh on our kids either. You have me to answer to if you do..." They have always respected that.

I once heard a pastor say at a baby dedication (the parents of the baby were in the ministry).... "When this little one is running around the church acting like a CHILD.... don't forget, God didn't call him to the ministry - he called his Dad to the ministry!" - or something to that effect. It stuck with me - sometimes we do expect too much from PKs - They should be allowed to be just PKs all right.... just Plain ole Kids!
