Is the bottom one a 7mm Mauser?
I love my 223/5.56.

Yep, Ill take my AR over the classic 7.62 shooters any day. Went the SKS route years back, kicked like a mule and was zero fun to shoot.

My wife has a relatively ancient 30.30 that has killed nearly 100 deer in its lifetime between her and her cousins, but mainly her father who gets 4-10 per season (due to being a farmer). It is reliable as they come but NO one likes to shoot it because of the ear splitting CRACK that occurs when you pull the trigger. Her dad says he has missed as many as he's hit because he winces in anticipation of the noise.

You give me something to think about, I have a lever action 30-30 on my "gotta buy someday" list. Wincing and missing sure would take the fun out of it.

Oh, it is reliable (obviously the single most important criteria in any gun, especially if it is to be counted on in a WROL situation), accurate and heavy as a tank -thus very little kick, but it is just LOUD.

That's a GARAND, Randy!!! Now go do penance (preferably involving some kind of highly painful public flagellation while kneeling on broken glass)!!!
lol
Seriously, though, the top three are 7.62 NATO (.308), the bottom, being a Garand, is of course 30.06.
As for available at sporting good stores, well, if you haven't stocked up already, fuggedaboudit. It's all running around 1 - 2 bux a round for new manufactured commercial stuff, and .75 per round surplus (IF you can find it before someone else snatches it).

Wha..??? The SKS shoots 7.63x39, an intermediate cartridge. 'Kicks like a mule'????? Seriously? The SKS and it's cousin the AK are just a hair bigger poodle shooters than an AR!!
The pics I gave are full powered .308 rifles (except for the last one, that's a Garand, ie 30.06).
If you think the SKS kicks like a mule how in the world do you handle a 12 gauge?

I bow my head in shame. Her gun is not a 30.30, it is a 35.
