Re: Boehner Caves On Debt Limit!!!!!
Dancing With Default
Obama opposes the House GOP's offer to pay debts first.
For people who claim that defaulting on U.S. debt is unthinkable, President Obama and Harry Reid are sure behaving as if they can't wait for that day to arrive. Why else are they refusing to take up the multiple Republican offers to guarantee that the U.S. will never default?
House GOP leaders also insist they don't want a default, and they've already passed a bill to prevent it—not that the media have paid any attention.

Everyone knew, except for you apparently, that Boehner would not let the govt default. I dare say the majority of Republicans in the House would not want the govt to default.
Besides, if Congress didn't raise the debt-ceiling, then obumer would bypass them and be in violation of the Constitution. As was pointed out in another thread, Boehner has no desire to try and impeach obumer.
Carry on.

that bill wants to make sure creditors get paid first but leave other liabilities like government programs susceptible to defunding by failure to raise ceiling. more trickery from republicans trying to protect the wealthy and shortchange the poor. PO, why do you defend people that jesus said would find it near impossible to make it to heaven?

the shutdown is hurting the economy, 800,000 federal workers and small businesses that depend on national parks. so what is the point? do you think democrats are going to give up what they have been fighting for for over 50 years just to limit some economic damage that will be blamed on republicans? the economic benefit in dollar terms and health terms way outweighs any economic damage caused by the shutdown. so what exactly are republicans accomplishing besides shooting themselves in the foot and putting northeastern and midwestern republicans at risk?

All that has to happen is for the Dems to agree to a one year delay in the indidvidual mandate. If in that time the people put their footdown and demand that the individual mandate be eliminated forever, then it will be a battle between what the people want and what the Dems have wanted for 50 years. I think the people's will is more important than the Democrats'. Don't you agree?

Re: Boehner Caves On Debt Limit!!!!!
A one-year delay makes sense, considering the chaos and utter flop the rollout has been.

we live in a republic where representatives rule based on the consent of the people. dems represent the will of the people. the will of the people was also expressed in 2012 when the whole election was about obamacare and romney lost. you are just being dishonest. the people have spoken and you don't want to accept it. so what are republicans accomplishing since there will be no compromise on obamacare?

LOL!
DM, Raising our debt ceiling isn't a cure all to make our fiscal problems end. You know that global markets are only interested in whether or not the United States is able to service its loans. So, raising the debt ceiling is only going to grant the Treasury Department the ability to acquire even more debt. It certainly isn't going to assure any of our creditors that this nation has the wherewithal to repay any debt. At some point our debt ceiling will no longer become a binding constraint. Instead, our borrowing will be constrained by our creditors' judgment of our ability to repay what we have borrowed.
If you want to get real, at that point, the debate over the debt ceiling becomes moot.
