I think the folks who use this word as an insult should be permanently banned. The punishment should match their accusation. I was highly incensed when I saw the accusation and then some of our best known AFF posters jumped in and agreed - laughing all the way.

I do not think someone should ever joke about a soul going to Hell - ever.

Again, I am for freedom of speech, and I loathe censorship, but this was out of line in a big way. I would hate for one of these men to be my pastor.

BTW, did you notice it was our CONSERVATIVE brethren who used the word in such a meanspirited way?

Were these posters warned or given infractions?

This lingo makes AFF look really awful.
Elder Epley,

You think they are reprobate?

That God has given up on them and that there is no hope for their souls? That is a very, very judgemental and harsh thing to say.

Indeed it is a harsh term. Yet the apostle Paul referred to some that way. not many. But some. I do not feel that he did so flippantly nor without any real sorrow of spirit. Such a designation, in seriousness, attaches a great deal of emotion from a real man of God.

We would do well to remember that there are souls attached to the usernames we see every day, and that we do not know every situation in their lives. Some folks hide what and who they really are on AFF. They take on a forum personality that is a bit different from reality.

BTW, it is never appropriate to joke about reprobation. We're talking eternal destiny here.

In my life I have met very FEW folks that I would consider reprobate.

As has already been stated the reprobate is very serious business.

Having said that, what is alarming to me is to see portrayed in posts on AFF the very spirit of reprobates that I witnessed in the FEW reprobates that I have known personally.

Some folks do not realize that in every day life, in the home, on the job and yes on AFF we sometimes find ourselves dealing with evil spirits.

Close your eyes if you want, but I have read things here, that caused the fear of the Lord to grip my soul.

I felt it was coming from unclean spirits.

I found myself sitting at my computer pleading the Blood and asking God for His mercy on the poster.

I didn't see that type of concern in your posts when you made your horrible assertions this weekend. You were laughing and joking about their condition.

Unclean spirits? Pot....kettle....black.

If you don't like it here, leave. Otherwise shut up.

Or in the words of my fifth grade teacher, Herticene Mayberry...."lock yo' lips!"

It is no more wrong to joke about reprobation than it is to intimate that one is either saved or lost over any terminology. For instance, some apply the "liberal" label in such a way as to imply that person is lost. Others apply the "legalist" label in such a way as to imply that person is lost. It is not the term, it is the intent, IMO.

I have no problem with using the terminology of "reprobate" if it is indeed meant TIC. I have had it appled to me in such a way and have never gotten offended over it.

If we lose the terminology and rhetoric around here then this place will become as exciting as watching cars rust and dirt dry.
