Air conditioner produces clean, healthy air, and filters dust, pollen, smoke from the air, dehumidifies the air, and creates a better feeling of wellbeing.
Standing for long periods can cause pain to ankles, knee, and hip joints, thus, comfortable seats.
I've just explained the health benefits of having A/C and chairs within a church.
Now you explain the health benefits of have smoke machines and colored lights at a Christian rock concert or youth services?
I repeat - none of these things are NECESSARY. They are luxuries. We have great revival in Kenya without air conditioning and half the people don't have seats. They stand for hours just to be in the presence of a living God!
There is NOTHING WRONG with smoke machines or lighting effects. If the kids like it, it's fine. God can move in the midst of vapor and smoke and lights!!! I've seen it many many times. Some of the most intimate worship times we have are during our "Edge" service, and there is weird lighting, fog, etc. etc. The presence of God has been really strong in those services. If you haven't been to one, then you really can't judge it, can you?

Trying to catch up late here....
There are many main stream churches that use these affect. I am for them. Several reasons why. Some many not agree and this is probably already been mentioned. It creates great affect with in the services. Such as if you are preaching about being in a storm if you use the lighting and sounds to help 'set the mood' it can really help grab peoples attention and bring them into the middle of what is being preached.
I remember watching Steve Munsey preach on this very topic of storms. I know most of you really don't like Steve or his methods, but critic if you want to but his church runs almost 20k as of the last time I saw him on TBN. It seems to be working. Anyway, he used the lighting and sounds to set the mood for the message and while some think it is wrong to play on peoples emotions and most times I agree, but to set the affect of the point he is trying to reach. It created a great response to his message. Things like the lighting and sound stuff really can help bring home the point.

If you can't have honest discussion, someone else will have to answer you. I'm not into silliness when it comes to the Bible.

I've generally found that those who have no logic to back their arguments generally resort to silliness and "strawman" arguments. Extremism abounds in the speech of those unprepared to defend their arguments with solid facts.
For instance:
Mister A: "Can you show me where it's a sin for a woman to wear earrings?"
Mister B:"Oh great, another one gone 'charismatic'! Why don't you go out and get your nose pierced, and your belly button pierced, and your tongue pierced? Enjoy your new 'no rules' church!"

I know you can't respond right now, but I've not seen anyone die from attending church without air conditioning or comfortable seats. Until the recent years, folks for centuries dealt with heat and sore hineys. It didn't kill them then, it won't kill us now. There is no 'health benefit' involved, just comfort measures.
Standing for long periods didn't bother Jesus, Paul, and Peter. Therefore, it shouldn't bother you.

God has created His own fog and lights show to speak to His people in the Bible on several occasions!! He must like it!

I'll tell you what the Holy Ghost is doing, He has his head hung in shame.
Who do you think you are talking to? This precious lady lays her life on the line for Jesus. Her very life. And you dare to question and mock her methods. YOU should be ashamed.

I've never said that.
For instance, there's a difference in someone saying 'the bible says women can't wear pants' and saying 'I believe that Deut 22:5 is speaking against women wearing pants.'

That's pretty much how it is, and that's sad. Then the conservatives think the libs are all about bashing them. Why not just have honest conversation?
