Aint that the understatement of the day!

My pastor made a comment in Sunday's sermon. Something along the lines of being able to determine your spiritual maturity by how you perceive others. (I wanted to take it one step further to say "perceive and receive others.")

AND I AM GUILTY AS THE NEXT GUY, so I'm not pointing fingers...But I am learning. I don't strugggle so much with the "receiving" others as many do. But I have been often offended, and sometimes I'm sure it is just be the way I "perceive" things.

I recently listened to a preaching tape series entitled "Spirit of Offense." It really opened my eyes! It was phenomenal for me! (I wonder if any of you have ever heard these sermons and know who did them??? Hint... I bet Nate knows.)

The Bait of Satan by John Bevere is also a must-read for any Christian aspiring to maturity.

Re: A question for everyone...

Wouldn't this pastor have been removed from teaching/preaching once he began with this foolishness? I know my pastor, if a visiting minister started doing something like you describe, my pastor would sit him down the second the guest preacher started with calling the saint ugly, or at least pastor would give a "Wow, Hold on their brother!" and stop the preacher dead in his tracks, and let him continue teaching if he refrained from his foolishness.

GOD BLESS!
Bro. Alex

Is it Just Me or Is this Just Wrong?

I was listening to a sermon today and was beyond shocked at what the minister said when he got up to speak.

What do you think?

"Went on a diet and lost a lot of weight.

We had a fun day at church and had those blow up slides and they were all jumping up and down.

The kids said, Pastor why don’t you go down there and slide down.

You don’t qualify to be Apostolic if you don’t have dingbats in your church. I mean, we’ve got a few of those. We got one in our church and she looks like a linebacker, God love her heart. She’s single for obvious reasons and she’s a good lady, kind lady, ugly, but kind.

All my older ladies love me, all the older sisters will hug me and kiss me. I looked and there’s the end of the line… I didn’t know whether to pucker or run. I hesitated and she looked at me and those words came out “I would hug you pastor, but I don’t want to stir up your emotions.”

Stir up my gag reflex, but anyway they talked me into going up this stupid slide and Sis. Carolyn …oh, delete that off brother. What rhymes with Carolyn?

I went up the slide. What I didn’t know is the boys were squirting dish soap on the side. I jumped high as I could jump. When I hit that slide, I looked like a runaway subway train. At the end of the slide…. my intention was to stop, look up and say the blessing of the Lord are on you.

I came off the end of that slide… holy Jesus….. I left the end of the slide and I’m telling you ….I hovered….. looked like a flying hippo. When I hit the ground…I slid........ at the end of my journey, there stood Sis. Linebacker…. I slid right between her legs. Well, I got wedged in and I was screaming Jesus, Jesus….. I just got up and left. All kinds of amazing things happen when you try to be human.

Well, let’s preach a little."

Re: A question for everyone...Should a Minister?

Thanks for merging admin.

I did not realize this was already being discussed in this thread when I started mine.

It just disappoints me that this minister feels this is perfectly fine to do. I believe I've read his posts on here and I would have never guessed he could stoop this low.

Ministers are going to have to be aware that just because they are a few hundred miles away from home, they are not safe from what they say if it is on the internet.

I pray Sis. Carolyn, if that's really her name doesn't want to listen in on her pastor while he's traveling.

Re: A question for everyone...Should a Minister?

I heard a presberter, speaking at a district sectional rally, refer to a lady in his church as an "old heifer".

That's the last thing I heard him say. Lost all respect for the man.

He's still our presberter.

Re: A question for everyone...Should a Minister?

That is really sad and what in the world did it have to do with preaching?

Aside from all that, becoming offended is the easiest thing in the world to do. We should all be as careful as possible not to cause offense, but we should all also be understanding that people make errors and harboring offense is immature and spiritually destructive.
No. He got up to the pulpit and started off with this story, then said, "well, let's preach".

Guess is was an ice breaker?

I guess making fun of himself made it okay to make fun of her?
