Oh I imagine they are.

Can someone verify this . . . I was busy online browsing the pages here and had FOXNews on in the background. I thought I heard something about a 2001 report on this bridge that questioned its structural integrity. I believe there was a question as to the support beams or structure and questions that vs the length and size of the bridge.

I'm trying to find it, but haven't heard or read anything on it yet.

Anyone else heard about that 2001 report?

Yes, they said it has issues but not significant to closing.

Also, said they would not disclose where this bridge was on that list. The governor said, however, he will get it and disclose it.

But a 2001 report by the state's department of transportation pointed to problems with corrosion in the bridge's steel beams and "poor welding" in trusses.

The report also said that the design of the bridge, in which only two main trusses support the load of eight lanes of traffic, was "theoretically" at risk of collapse in the case of a single crack in a truss section.
This was found from a google search . . . from a South African newspaper. It's pretty much the same as what I heard on FOXNews last night.

Corrison on the bearings was one of its problem.

Some cracking, years ago, but not any new ones.

High traffic bridge.

2001 study fatique cracking was not expected in the deck trusses. Could expect years of service from that structure.

2004-07 in-dept study . (Missed phone call)

It is my opinion that American workmanship is driven by the lowest possible bid which most of the time means the worst possible job barely meeting, if meeting at all structural requirements.

I know the bridge crossing over to Clearwater beach was shut down and redone several times before it was finished and I still say there is a deep flaw in the construction which will evidence itself in a disaster in the near future.

There is no work ethics, no customer service, and very little acceptance of responsibility across the board in America.

Just my little hobby horse today

Blessings, Rhoni

Your certainly right about no customer service.

Can you call anyone without a recording?

Sadly, not even many churches.

Rhoni, while I think most people in Government are crooked, I would have to agree that it will be found that there was a combination of too much weight/traffic/resurfacing that caused the structural failure.

Quite amazing that with the amount of Bridges/Overpasses & traffic on America's roads, that there isn't "more" structural failures.

Alas, the Interstate system is aging so maybe these things are a harbinger of things to come.

I wonder how long it will take to rebuild/repair?

Good ol' Huey P. Long knew how to get a bridge properly built. The one over the very, very wide Mississippi at Baton Rouge sees more cars than the one in Minneapolis/St Paul every day. It was built in 1935 as the one that spans the Mississippi in New Orleans. The one was built by his successor, O. K. Allen was built shortly afterwards. Say folks, that was 70 years ago. Never missed a day of service since then.

Good ol' Huey. Some still speak his name in hushed reverence.

Good ol' Jimmy Davis was not so bad either.

They just don't make Governors like they used to.

Ol' Huey told Standard Oil Company that he was their Lord and Master. They believed him.

All the days that I went to school in Louisiana, little Louisiana boys and girls never bought a book, never bought a school lunch. They were fine lunches too...very much unlike the garbage they feed the kids today. Our milk in the little bottles were .03 cents each. When I was really young, the teacher gave us our writing tablets and pencils too.

My Grandma had a picture of Huey P. Long hanging on her old country home until the day she died. Didn't anyone ever speak against Huey.

Good ol' Huey. He could build bridges. His moto was "Every man a king. A chicken in every pot."
