Lightbulb Polygamy & Apostolics

I watched a documentary on polygamy called, "The Outsiders". If anyone else caught the show, you know it was about a family where the man had two wives, one wife middle-aged with 6 children, and one barely an adult with two children. They looked the typical conservative Apostolic family proclaiming they 'loved and chose the life they were living', and the man smiling and telling how all he was doing was taking care of his family. There were tears in the eyes of the middle-aged wife as she confessed to having moments of jealousy and resentment that she was being replaced with a younger model, and then she thought of the 'sister' she had found in the other wife, and the younger wife sung the praises of the older wife who was teaching her how to care for the children and their home, and how to love her husband.

The brought out the fact that these women were under 'submission' to their husband, and would never wear pants but long skirts..as they paid homeage to the husband and leader of the family. It reminds me of that painted hobby horse of Apostolic men who love to have their cake and eat it too while taking all the sweetness of their wives for granted and the wife slowly dying every day.

There were few genuine smiles, or heartfelt statements by the women...but all the men seemed pleased as punch.

Just thought I'd share the similarities between the Mormon polygamists and our many Apostolic families. The abuse of power and leadership and the sacrifice of the women's identity.oloroid

Blessings, Rhoni

Absolutely...if I was one of the wives...I'd stick with my 'sister' and we'd kill him!

Hardly at all like many Apostolic families, just because they wear long skirts. That's a logical fallacy to take one similarity shared like that. They wear long skirts due to submission to their husbands, not because they believe it's a biblical teaching.

Sorry but I think this is dumb

Apostolic is defined on AFF as:

  1. There is One God. This one God reveals Himself distinctly as Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
  2. The Son is God himself in a human form or "God manifested in the flesh" (1Tim 3:16)
  3. Every sinner must repent of their sins.
  4. That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
  5. That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
  6. The saint will go on to strive to live a holy life, pleasing to God.

Hasn't this been a fairly popular statement here lately.... (A similar statement was also used several times in the messy house thread)

You're a guy appears to be used as synonymous with You're an idiot....

Well... I haven't been here for 3 days and I haven't read any of the posts except a few on the first page so I am unaware of any other commentary you may have brought on yourself by such a comment...

And the shoe doesn't fit.
