Opening statements from the Judge happening now with the Jury instructions.

I'm interested to see what the evidence will be.

Wow, right away the pros goes to the 911 tape. "........ punks. These ......., they always get away." Refers to GZ as a "grown man" who "profiled" a "17-year old teenager." He repeated the curse-filled statement above 3 times. Said GZ profiled, followed and murdered TM.

Well, pros opening statement focused exactly on what I thought it would focus on...the 911 tape and statements made by GZ, including asking the 911 operator to have the police call him to see where he was when they got there.

I thought it was interesting the pros allegation that GZ's head injury was only a centimeter or two and didn't require stitches...and that GZ wanted to return to work right away. I would think that if he's getting his head bashed to the point where he's in fear of his life that it would 1) cause more significant injury; and 2) he wouldn't be going back to work the next day or two.

I had to leave for a second and it appears there's a sidebar, recess or something because the feed is just showing the state seal.

If GZ waited till that point would he be able to draw a weapon?

Defense Atty West giving opening statements.

"This is a sad case." TM's parents grieving, have the right to do so; "have a right to feel the way they do." GZ's parents grieving as well; not in courtroom because they are on witness list, cannot be in the courtroom because of that.

West opens with a Knock-knock joke....really? I've liked West, but that wasn't appropriate, IMO. I still like West, but I think that was a poor choice.

Listening to what was incorrectly labeled a 911 call by GZ, it was actually to the non-emergency number.

I can't hear what both the pros and defense atty's mentioned...the "* punks" curse he's said to have muttered.

Observation: Pros opening statement was short and played to emotion. He repeated GZ's curse statement several times. Said GZ profiled, followed and murdered TM. He gave no statement of evidence.

Def opening statement has been much longer and has been all about evidence. Photo enlargements of the apartment complex, the crime scene, playing the 911 calls, etc.

Interesting contrast. Is Pros waiting until its direct examination to present its evidence; or does its opening statement show that they will rely more on appealing to emotion than evidence?

I think the evidence will do all the speaking..I think that's why Don West is being so calm cause the evidence will prove self defense..
