Prayers for my husband Don

Don will be having both knees replaced Monday 6/24. It's a big surgery and painful recovery but it has to be done.

Smith and Nephew LEGION prosthesis with Verilast. He is very young for this operation and the expectation is that he will need it again in the future. We are trying to minimize that to ONCE in the future as a third replacement only has a 50/50 chance of working at all.

Wow, having both knees done at the same time! Did you make that decision or did the doctors? I know some people like to have them both done at the same time so as to not go through the same surgery twice, but, the recovery is very difficult when both knees are operated on.

Will definitely be praying for Don, and for you, his wife and caretaker through all this! Please keep us updated as to how he does!

Don's employer made that decision by choosing a policy with a very high ($5K) deductible and a higher ($10K) out of pocket max... and only allowing the mandatory 12 weeks of FMLA before job loss while providing NO opportunity for light duty.

If Don were to have the surgery in two separate operations it would cost us somewhere between $15-30K depending on if they were in the same year. If they were in the same year it would be the lower number but Don would lose his job for exceeding his time off allowed in one year. He also has a max of 20 PT visits... so even after our OOP was met we'd have to pay cash for the second round of PT.

Also I can not imagine that Don could be mentally ready to face a second knee replacement right on top of the first... So two it is. I'm plenty worried for him but trying to keep my game face on.
