Syria

Obama Administration moves forward to arm Syrian rebels. Apparently Sen. McCain was able to offer a convincing argument after visiting the rebel leaders a couple weeks ago.

Nothing like a new war to get the press off the current, multiple scandals Obama is facing.

I don't like it. Many of the rebels are aligned with AQ. This will help to raise and arm another OBL.

This is a Syrian civil war. It's sad what is happening, but it's not our responsibility to get involved. Let the Syrians and their neighbors fix the mess and worry about it.

I'm tired of the US running off to join whatever conflict they can find (cause).

Re: Syria

One thing Obama has been consistent on is "standing with Muslims" regardless of their affiliation. Even the surveillance of American citizens has Muslims exempt. When will America wake up???

In “Audacity of Hope” Obama writes: “I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction.” The quote comes from page 261 of the paperback edition of “The Audacity of Hope.

That's not quite what was written...

Quote:
Of course, not all my conversations in immigrant communities follow this easy pattern. In the wake of 9/11, my meetings with Arab and Pakistani Americans, for example, have a more urgent quality, for the stories of detentions and FBI questioning and hard stares from neighbors have shaken their sense of security and belonging. They have been reminded that the history of immigration in this country has a dark underbelly; they need specific assurances that their citizenship really means something, that America has learned the right lessons from the Japanese internments during World War II, and that I will stand with them should the political winds shift in an ugly direction.
Nowhere is the word "Muslims" in that full-context quote. Sure, one could assume that all Arab and Pakistani Americans are Muslim, but that would be a stretch.

I just didn't want DM, Jermyn, or Light to see it and claim we were lying about Obama again.

FTR - I do think Obama's record shows he's partial to them, and does whatever possible to pacify them.

What record?
What partiality?
Which Muslims-- the Shia or who?
Which muslim countries-- Pakistan? Afghanistan?

He's criticized if he lets the Middle East go up in flames while we do nothing.

He's criticized if he gets involved because he's a secretly a Muslim.

Can President Obama please everyone? No.

But for the record, our intervention in Syria will eventually be more than just arming a few rebels.

Syria has become a proxy war.
Asaad MUST BE REMOVED from power, but Russia and even Hezbollah are helping the forces loyal to Asaad while we will be forced to help the extremists that will only be our bed partners for a short period of time.

We never should have gotten involved period. We've "encouraged" these uprisings because those who would be rebels believe we will come to their aid. The result such as Egypt is worse off

Re: Syria

We will back Islamics who behead people they don't like while criticizing Assad for using chemical weapons. So what is worse death by chemical weapons or by beheading? What about bullets in the body?

This red line stuff don't make sense. The current American president has backed rebels in 2 other countries Libya and Egypt which were more receptive to us than those who took over.

The worse part is that RUSSIA has committed itself to Syria. Yea that RUSSIA that has as many NUCLEAR WEAPONS as the US.

A very good way to get the minds of Americans off the total barrage of scandals being unleashed. If WW3 happens oh well!

Re: Syria

*sigh* Reports say 300 US Marines have been deployed and are in Jordan, near the Syrian border to assist with the weapons transfer to the Syrian rebels.

I was hoping Obama would stay out of Syria....but nothing like a bunch of scandals to turn one into a warmonger.
