Who Really Prospers in the Financial Prosperity Teaching?

Let me first say that I believe in and teach prosperity. I believe that prosperity follows when we apply God's word to our lives and use widsom in those areas.

The major key to financial freedom is this: Spend less than you make!

I believe in tithing and giving liberally. I also believe in using wisdom with the 90% I have to work with. It's not God's fault if I tithe and spend foolishly. Tithing is NOT an "insurance" policy on my finances. I tithe because it is the RIGHT thing to do. God is not obligated to bless me if I give foolishly or selfishly.

However, in all my years in the ministry, seeing and hearing the prosperity doctrine in its many iterations, it has been my observation that the ones who primarily prosper from the "financial" prosperity message are NOT the ones who HEAR it, but the ones who PREACH it. They are the ones who RECEIVE the offerings...the widows mites, if you will.

I am not opposed to giving to those who are in ministry. But I have a really hard time with the ilke who say that the way to prosperity is to give to THEM. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out who gets rich here!!

Anyway, that is my take. What think ye?

Yep. I'd say that someone, if they want to test this teaching out, should 'sow' their money into somewhere other than the place that's preaching it! At least they would know it went to a good cause!

These tv guys preach this so-called prosperity plan...they get the prosperity and the poor folks who listen get the plan.

The real-estate, stock market, internet, lemonade and whatever other seminars prove that the money is in the seminar or message (and those exhorbitant fees they charge for the seminar), not in the actual substance of the message.

Well it depends....I went to a real estate seminar, learned some techniques I was unaware of, applied what I learned to a deal, and turned a profit of around 30k....had I not learned that technique, I would never have done the deal due to lack of knowledge...got way more back than I put into the seminar for that one....so again, it depends. The money stays in the seminar for those who do not take action (provided that the content is good)...

...now of course, there are tons and tons of gimmicks out there, with that I agree...so it makes it hard for many people to sift through gimmicks by charlatans to find good content and worthwhile education.

Nonetheless, I understand your general point, but I just wanted to highlight that not all of it is nonsense, though too much is.

This is true...but these guys assault the public with genius marketing offering what seems like, "just open this box, plug it in and you will be a millionaire!!" when what they say is just an introduction or just offering a technique or two.

Paying a few thousand for a couple of ideas can seem steep...but I have also profited from them...as a supplement. Just right up the prosperity messages' line.

Yeah, seems like everyone and their grandma has the Holy Grail...

Jekyll, you've been to any Robert Kiyosaki seminars? I think his books provide a good foundation for the novice investor...to get them thinking properly about finances.
