Why do we pray so much for people to be healed? Or want to hold onto this life so much, when our life is Jesus? Is it a natural instinct to live?

when we get to heaven, I think our work is done.
down here there are family and friends who need us still.
the aging process should help us focus on letting go of this world
and getting ready for the next one.
But its hard, here we see and touch and appreciate and love
it's hard to let go of the seen for the unseen.

cindy, i feel the same way, christians believe in a better life in eternity, why should we pray for miracles if someone is elderly or on deathbed. i can understand praying for young people or middle aged with an illness.
I was thinking yesterday, if we pray for healing without ending or atleast mentioning "nevertheless let thy will be done", maybe we are praying against Gods will. Tho I think He understands our asking...
I've yet to get my mind around some of this stuff, no doubt His ways are oftentimes past finding out....things like, why a crippled very old person(Christian)like my grandma can hardly be a witness at all anymore but keeps on living, while some middle aged still able to spread the gospel are taken out with illness or something.
He's still got it all in His hands tho.

Sure, I believe in healing. But, at the same time, if God wants to heal someone He'll do it on his time.
To pray for an elderly person who's on their deathbed would make more sense to pray for comfort as opposed to their healing. Put ourselves in their shoes. Why continue in the pain and emotional stress that is placed on themselves and others around?
All others, sure I'll pray and believe in healing. But, it's ultimately "Lord, let Your will be done."
But, that verse doesn't mention anything about healing, let alone that it will take place.

1 John 5:14 is a self-fulfilling promise. Ask for anything according to God's will (i.e., ask Him to do something that He already wants to do), and it will be done. No matter what happens, you can say God's will was done. Neat!

Alright. That was an easy enough answer. Let's delve into it a tad.

1. We're not told TO pray for every sick person. We're told that IF WE ASK anything according to His will he hears us. That particular portion of scripture doesn't even say that he will answer... but that he hears... and even then... only when we ask according to His will. Then... if we know that he hears us then we know that we have the petititions that we desire of Him. But the verse clearly gives stipulations and it doesn't tell us TO do anything. It informs us what will happen when we do petition God in accordance to His will.
This is really the crux of what is being asked by the thread. Do we assume that it is God's will that every person who is sick get healed? It is, indeed, our will. But is it God's. But, yet, we ask at nearly every turn. I think the scripture you presented gives credence to the question more than it does some type of answer.
2. How many people do we pray for who are at deaths door and they die? Many... probably most... or we wouldn't have people dieing. Of course that harks back to our will verses God's will.
But, yet, we always pray that God heal them. And, most of the time, He doesn't. And yet we never stop and evaluate whether we are praying in God's will or not. But the next time a person we know or know of is deathly ill... we'll all pray again... never stopping to evaluate whether it is God's will or not.
So... I said all that to say... I think the question being presented is valid and one to consider. I also think that most won't consider it though.
And the scripture presented certainly offers no answer... it actually demonstrates the question.
