I think OA is posting TIC (not really sure! ), but really, what are the other metaphors about?
1. In my name shall they cast out devils
2. they shall speak with new tongues
3. if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them
4. they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover
BTW, this is a list of signs. A sign is an indication of something. It's noticeable. It wouldn't be a sign if people couldn't see it. So, how does one see that a believer is metaphorically picking up snakes -- doing spiritual warfare?

A few years ago my wife and kids hounded me about getting a pet snake. I am very afraid of them. I finally got my wife on my side by reminding her that the snake she wanted would have to be fed mice. She loves animals and the idea of having to feed the snake cut little mice did the trick!

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.
"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.
"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."
