Posting under real names
The popular game "World of Warcraft" is going to start linking forum user's real names with their forum screen name. When they post on the forum, everyone will be able to see their real name as well as their forum handle. They are doing this to cut down on flame wars and trolling.
If AFF were to do this, would you still post on here? I know some do already, but the majority of us do not.
I probably would, simply because most of my posts aren't anything crazy, and I tend to lurk more than post as it is.

Re: Posting under real names
A lot of people from AFF know my "real" name because of Facebook. On AFF I post with my first name, and the City and State in which I live.

I use the tiger because it's my favorite animal. My real pic is on my Facebook page though. I am just a little skinnier now.

Re: Posting under real names
I'm pretty much an "open book." I've posted openly, only to have everyone call for me to use my "fake" name again. I tried not to let on how much that hurt... but the wounds are there. *sniff
Anyone who cares to can also look me up in the AFF group on Facebook.

Re: Posting under real names
In the beginning of my forum experience, I would have been way too afraid to post my real viewpoints if everyone knew who I "really was." Thankfully, I've moved past that, developed a spine, and would continue to post either way. With that in mind, though, I can definitely understand someone feeling the need for anonymity.

Glad you have a spine. Guess the rest of us are still spineless, immature creatures!
(Yes, I read your closing disclaimer. No respond with 5 paragraphs. I'm only teasing with you)

Actually, posting under my real name would still be hard for me. I would do it if the forum required it, though. I worry about things like how my family might be affected, since most of them are in ministry. Or, how my pastor might be affected negatively by some opinion I toss out there....
More recently, I've worried about how my opinions might negatively affect my kids.
Overall, it annoys me that I have to be worried about it at all. There shouldn't be negative consequences for people speaking their minds in a reasonably polite manner. We all know that there are little peons who go around looking for dissenters to report to their superiors, or worse, who try to make life difficult for the dissenters directly. What a life they must have. Talk about people who need jobs....
There...that was really only 2 paragraphs.
