Merry Mithra?
Mithra was the Indio/Persian god of light, born on what we call Dec 25th.
Many of his legends parallel what Christianity call Christ Mass.
Most non-Catholic theologians agree that Jesus could not of been born in December but most likely Sept or first week of Oct.
Does it bother anyone that the customs that Christianity calls Christ Mass is mainly pagan in origin, or is it just the tradition that matters?
Mat 15:3 But he answered and said unto them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition?
Just wondering.

Re: Merry Mithra?
Lots of our traditions are from pagan origins.
It's very deeply ingrained in our speech, days of the week, months of the year, foods, customs, etc. We don't have a whole lot of choice whenever we use a calendar, reference a day and date, etc.
It is an American custom to celebrate the birth of Jesus on December 25 so we do it with a different attitude than those around us. Our children and our grand children know about the birth of Jesus and the real meaning of Christmas. And we all enjoy giving and receiving gifts, putting up a CHRISTmas tree, getting together, etc.
This is a picture of me from the Church play this year. I played a grandfather who read the real Christmas story from the Bible.

We have no choice concering our speech, days of the week, months and such customs. We DO have a choice whether to perpetuate a falsehood concerning Yeshua Messiah. I opted out in 1976.

we do have a holiday we give gifts and celebrate well its called thanksgiving a time to be thankful for things.
if you to lie to yourself and say your not part of this pagan holiday yet you do the same things as the rest of the apgan world does your just deceiveing your own self .. be like sitting in a bar drinking beer and saying i am not part of this because i just do it once a yr. humbug lol.!

Prove everything you said. Just saying it is so does not make it so.

Folks don't care, it's a sacred cow for sure. When something is fun involving children/family with an emotional fuzzy feeling then you can forget someone accepting the truth about it.

Re: Merry Mithra?
A CHRISTmas tree? What does it have a little nativity on it???? I know the origins of Christmas but I would never equate the tree with Christ. Its just a tradition. I would never try to defend it with Bible. It just does not compute. I however am not so hard nosed that I shove my decisions down the throat of another but I am not going to try and say the tree is about Jesus. Its about an atmosphere for having a party. Women especially like to decorate their houses. Now a Nativity is much different. Those always remind me of the birth of Jesus not the tree. Trees remind me of gifts and gifts remind me of family. Thats my take.

You have a point, all hese trees. lights, decor and materialism is not really about Christ but about themselves.

Re: Merry Mithra?
We celebrate Christmas and we believe in Santa Claus
but Jesus is the reason for the season.
This is one of my grandchildren (age 3) on Christmas Eve (last night) looking at the manger scene.
This actually was not posed.
