Building Faith Or Building Emotions ?
In some churches there seems to be a push to build Christians's emotions epecially during a Praise service or if a Minister seems to think a service is dead ,He'll try to pump folks to Praise.
Shouldn't churches try to build peoples's faith rather than their emotions?

Wow, Scott. You said a mouthful!! I think you are right on and this is a very profound thought you brought up here. Not saying people shouldn't praise.....but people praise because they have faith.....they don't manufacture faith by getting pumped up by someone else.

Ditto Scott: good thought. As a worship leader, I put my heart and soul into worship.
I try to say very little between songs. Our praise team leads by example in worshipping God.
I agree with the thought I've seen expressed on this forum before, that there is a difference between praise and worship.
I have witnessed song leaders or pastors try to "work people" into a frenzy.
I've seen folks run the backs off the pews, miss a turn and run thru a sheetrock wall.
I saw two brothers running different directions and meet headfirst, resulting in a huge goose egg and a concussion.
I AM NOT a fan of "ShockaMoo" I've "been there done that" and repented of it.
So much of what we call praise in some of our churches are nothing more than displays of the flesh, saying, "woooohoooo look at me, I really got it."
Sorry, as I know some will be offended by my remarks, but shouting and doing pentecostal two step, is used to much as a gage of someones spiritual condition and that is so sad.

If it has to be manufactured, if someone has to manipulate people into it, then it is of the flesh and not of God.

Man looks at the outward appearance but God looks at the heart. What's really in the heart of a person that feels he has to use specific styles of music, the volume and/or speed of the music, or a specific style/volume of preaching in order to manipulate a particular emotional response?

I used to be a worship leader that tried to lead people into a frenzy. But I did do it as well as ask people to do it. I don't think that is nearly so important anymore though.

You got it right with your last sentence. It is not nearly as important. The true worshipers do so in spirit and in truth. Sure Psalms talkes about dancing and singing and rejoicing. I head a minister say once something that will always stick with me. What can God tell you dancing in the spirit that He can not tell you on your face. However, if you are dancing shouting, etc. then make sure you get a word or promise from Him. At the very least make a promise to Him or give Him your word you will follow Him. Words to live by.
Why just dance and move and not get a word. Save the effort. You could always stop spending money to dry clean your suit and dresses and put it toward a gym membership and get a real work out. Even better give it to missions and God will then really bless you.
Disclaimer: I am a shouter and a praiser. Not for the work out but for real worship. Not because of the guitar is loud enough or the lead singer is hitting the right notes. Sure it helps but it is not the reason. Not becuase of a

I think if God moves on someone to worship by dancing or shouting or rolling in the aisles even...they should do it. But I doubt God cares about this as much as we do.
