Young Man At Church About To Be Homeless...
There is a young man, not even 25 yet, who is about to lose his apartment. He lost his job and he says he has not been able to find work. I don't believe that he wasn't able to find work. He is saved, but I believe he is irresponsible and a bit lazy to be honest. I don't want to see him homeless. It will just compound his issues with trying to re-establish stability. I don't think it looks good for the church for him to be homeless either. Some would see and then say, "What good is a church that lets its members become homeless without helping them." The misses doesn't think it is a good idea for him to stay with us and I am really unsure as to what I should do-- if I should do any thing at all. I am not his Pastor, but I have ministered to this young man numerous times. What would you do?

Is he a faithful member? Is he living for Christ? Does he have a habit of asking others to pay his bills? If he is faithful to Jesus Christ and the Pastor does nothing to keep him off the streets it would be shamfeul indeed. What is Church for?

Yes he is a faithful member. Yes he is living for Christ. As far as I know he doesn't ask people for money for stuff. He is just not as motivated as he could be when it comes to work. He could have been had another job or he could just go to school or trade school-- but he hasn't done any of these things.

I think Esaias had an excellent suggestion in his last post as to how the church might help in his immediate circumstances.
But the root of the problem has to be addressed.
Might this kid need some life coaching? If he doesn't have any drive, dreams, vision, or passion, he's going to drift and daily life will seem meaningless. Certainly someone can help him find his calling whether it might require going to school, being mentored in the trades, serving in any of the numerous fields of service, technology, or even ministry. I believe God has a calling and purpose for us all. When that calling and purpose is realized, pursued, and made a reality there is passion, drive, and joy in the journey.
What's the old saying? "Find something you love to do, and you'll never work a day in your life." What would he love to do? Helping to get him on that road could very well be a long term answer.
I know I don't know the kid personally, and that I could be way off. But those are some thoughts that came to mind.

I am sure he needs some kind of life coaching, but he has been around the church and other godly men for quite some time (since his teen years). Its not like he has no clue about life. Besides, the most immediate need is shelter.

salvation army or some other homeless shelter, that may be an awesome life lesson on why it's good to be motivated.

He could do work for the church in exchange for help keeping his apartment.
Or his parents/family could help out.
