Baptizing Minors...

Do you have a form letter to the parents after the young person has expressed interest in baptism and a permission slip...even if the parent it going to be present at the baptism(just for liability sake... some nuts out there will lie their tales off if they think they can get some money)? Care to share said letters/slips? lol

Also what type of things would you say when you goto the parents and talk to them about their young person wanting to get baptized?

I ask all of this because a young person in my group wants to get baptized and Pastor told me to "follow proper protocols" and when asked to clarify he just mentioned a slip and a letter and taking a trip to the parents house....

I'm excited about the first person in my youth group to get baptized....and I wanna make sure everything is kosher as we dunk her in Jesus Name

Bite it over what Daniel..... the word Kosher came to mind to me.

If we did a Kosher baptism it would problably not resemble any baptisms any of us have ever witnessed.

Should we get the thread going again on a proper ritual early apostolic church baptisms?

It really would be a shame if you turned this into a thread debating the importance or necessity of baptism.

Why not instead just put your masterful people skills to work and advise the man on how to handle unsaved parents? Instead of it being in any way confrontational, this is a great opportunity to address people and include them in their child's conversion to Christianity. It's a wonderful thing!

What you believe about baptism should be irrelevant to this thread, because if a Christian believes something to be vital to salvation, they are obligated to pursue it with unbelievers in the hopes of leading them to Christ.

So...do you have any sage advice?

So true MissB....I am so glad to hear of a young un from a youth group wanting to commit to Christ.

just make an appointment to speak with them and share with them their daughters new found faith and what a public declaration of baptism menas to the church.

I'd get their permission. Often when this happens at our church te whole family shows up with guests to witness their childs baptism

Well there is the .....

Oneness Pentecostal Sabbatarian group originating in China called the True Jesus Church.

This is from their articles of faith:

Water baptism is the sacrament for the remission of sins for regeneration. The baptism must take place in natural living water, such as the river, sea, or spring. The Baptist, who already has had received baptism of water and the Holy Spirit, conducts the baptism in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. And the person receiving the baptism must be completely immersed in water with head bowed and face downward.

I met this group in Heidelberg Germany in 1982. I found the highlighted of interest. They do NOT beleive in baptizing backwards like we do. They consider it as sacriligious as not baptizing in Jesus name.
