The Defense Rests...

"The one preach Christ of contention, not sincerely, supposing to add affliction to my bonds: But the other of love, knowing that I am set for the defence of the gospel. What then? notwithstanding, every way, whether in pretence, or in truth, Christ is preached; and I therein do rejoice, yea, and will rejoice." Philippines 1:16-18

A prince of the Gospel has left us...

Reverend Aubrey William Buie, Senior - son, brother, father, pastor, evangelist, Bible teacher, theologian and church leader - departed this life on Sunday, February 17, 2008 in Monroe, Louisiana...

...Brother Buie was a peer of David Gray, James Kilgore, Nathaniel Urshan, Stanley Chambers, V. A. Guidroz, Dan Hayes, E. L. Freeman, Nona Freeman, George L. Glass, Don Johnson, Jack Jones, D. L. Welch, Tom Mayo, David Mayo, Everette "Shorty" Mayo and many, many others...

...his father-in-law was Arthur T. Morgan, former General Superintendent of the United Pentecostal Church, and he founded several churches throughout the United States while serving in a variety of elected and appointed national and district leadership positions...

...many men of God received their ministerial calling while serving under his anointed leadership...John Kiggins, Lowell Haslip, Carl Stephenson, D. D. Davis, T. H. Tynes, A. W. Buie, Jr., R. M. Buie and J. A. Buie and many, many more...

...his unlimited knowledge and depth of understanding of Oneness Pentecostal theology and the Pauline Epistles was exemplary and his Bible study on the works of the flesh and the fruit of the Spirit were legendary throughout the Oneness movement...

...he is survived by his wonderfully dedicated wife of sixty-seven years, Gloria Gwendolyn, and...

...his life and ministry have this powerful testimony...

"For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing." 2 Timothy 4:6-8

...as of Sunday, February 17, 2008, the defense rests!

Sorry for your loss, Bro. Buie.
But we can take comfort in knowing he's gone home to his reward.

May God's blessings be upon the Buie family during this time of grieving.

Re: The Defense Rests...

Elder, it's with a heavy heart and tears in my eyes that I read and respond to this thread . I am so sorry for the loss you and your family are feeling at this time. I know words do not suffice that can express what you must be feeling or the greatness of your father.

Having never met him ... I can only get a glimpse of his great stature by looking at the legacy woven masterfully in you and your offspring ... and from our friendship, discussions, the love and honor you demonstrated towards my father and family and the arduous fruit of your labor in the city we both love. The Church has indeed lost a prince in the here and now .... but rejoice in knowing he has gained the crown of righteousness and robe of eternal life.

Pastor, I will always remember how much my dad loved, respected and admired you. Also, your words of comfort to our family when my dad went home. I wish I could express myself as articulately as you did ... but since I cannot ... please know that if there is something we can do ... anything ... ask it. We love you and your wonderful family.

Today, I give honor to a Champion of grace, Apostolic hero, model of tolerance and extraordinary father, grandfather, pastor, teacher, friend and brother.

Solemnly,

DA

Daniel:

What a true and kind friend and brother you are! As I loved and respected your father so much, and offered my heartfelt expressions of love and comfort to you and your family at his loss, so, too, you now bring a comfort and peace to my heart. And, of course, that is exactly what brothers and friends do. If you think about it, we, Pentecostals, are a true "band of brothers" joined together in victory and loss.

I only wish that Pastor Alicea could have met my father when both were in New York City at the same time. But at didn't happen. I believe they would have become fast friends and brothers in Christ. But, what am I thinking? They are getting acquainted right now in heavenly places in Christ Jesus!!!

Your Dad is probably teaching my Dad how to say holy in Spanish. I can hear it now... "Santo...santo...santo!" Just like it was only yesterday...

Now I have two great men of God to remember, respect and long to see again...it is one of the reasons of the hope that lies in us.

Thanks so much for you kindness and comforting words, Dan. And please pray for my mother...

AT Morgan, Howard Goss and AW Buie

Elder Epley has stated here before that AW Buie is one of the best teachers he's ever heard in Pentecost.
