Another interesting note on this verse in John ... quoted by T... is that it does not say given ... in the original text ... that's why it's in brackets ...
it should read as it does many other translations as the Holy Ghost had not yet come ...
it may seem like parsing words .. but if I say something has not yet been given it connotes 'something new' ... of course the manifestation of the HG upon all flesh ... had not yet come ... but it does not take away from the other visitations and infillings of the Spirit of God throughout the OT. The promise had not come because Jesus was still not yet glorified.
