Re: I Prefer Pentecostal

I prefer to be called a Christian cause it refers to being Christ like, but Pentecostal or Apostolic refers to an organization, often times.

I prefer Pentecostal.

And I know you all care deeply about my preferences.
Its the MOST important thing I ever did...often times I think lots of folks call themselves Pentecostal but I can see no difference in them than my former self died hair, face full of make up, skin tight jeans, I love the change and I love being Apostolic but most of all I love Jesus. My question is whats wrong with being Apostolic dear Brother?

It doesn't matter what one calls themselves because what you call yourself and the reality of what you are may be different. I could call myself rich, but if I don't have a job or even a dollar to my name then I am rich 'in name only' and not in practice or actuallity.

Nothing is wrong with calling one self Apostolic or Pentecostal. Because ifsomeone calls themself a Pentecostal and they dress all wacky (which dress code is not an issue of holiness) they may be referring to the experience that they practice and not the denomination one is in.

Being called a Christian is much better than dividing up into sects.

Re: I Prefer Pentecostal

The term "Christian" has such negative connotations with unbelievers, especially younger ones, that I'm not so sure it's a label I want to pin my forehead. When people ask me what I am I usually say, "I dunno. I believe the Bible?!"

Sure beats "IIIIIIIII'm aaaaaaaaa oneGodApostolictonguetalkingholyrollin'bornagainbe lieverbaptizedinJesusName!"

Re: I Prefer Pentecostal

I know:
1st I'm Christian (a relationshiop with Jesus).
2nd I'm a believer of God, the Father, Jesus, the Son & the Holy Spirit (Holy Ghost if you prefer).
3rd I'm Pentecostal in my beliefs due to being baptised in the Holy Spirit with evidence of speaking in toungs.

I praise God for my Salvation, my walk with Jesus, and my being filled with the Holy Spirit.

May I ask you what is wrong with being Christian? Isn't the whole idea to be Christ like and to follow Christ? I would much rather be identified with Christ than a Jewish feast or one incident (as major as it is) in Christianity.

"Christianity" embodies much more of what I am than "Pentecostal"

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.

"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.

"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

I agree. I'm a Christian, period.

Doesn't the New Testament discourage breaking ourselves off into little groups? "I'm of Paul, I'm of Apollos", etc? Can you imagine how the world could really be impacted if we had unity? If all Christians under every umbrella could begin to work together? I think one of the devil's most effective tools has been breaking all of Christianity up into smaller and smaller groups.
