Trump: Chicago 'must ask for Federal help!'
I'm not bashing Trump with this thread. I am focusing on a statement he made and would like to discuss if there is any conflict in his statement with the role of the federal government in local issues.
Here is Trump's tweet:
"Chicago murder rate is record setting – 4,331 shooting victims with 762 murders in 2016. If Mayor can't do it he must ask for Federal help!"
First, Trump is right. Chicago's murder rate last year did set a terrible record.
Second, I would like some clarification of the last sentence: "If Mayor can't do it he must ask for Federal help!" Is this Trump just talking, or does he believe Chicago's mayor "must" ask the government for help.
Also, what does this help entail?
Finally, I know most of us agree on limited role of government in state and local issues. Should the government, whether it is obama or Trump, force itself in a local issue?
