There's a difference?
The News reports that the Military is suggesting it was an airplane of some sort of even a weather phenomena.
Considering the contrail seems to be going upwards and follows the pattern of elevating straight up for a while and then curving off to the right, it sure appears like a rocket to me. I see jets all the time from Vandenburg or Magu and they never leave contrails like that, never

Ive never seen an air plane leave a contrail like that, it would make more sense to say a jet but even then jets don't fly vertically up into the atmosphere.

Maybe it was just this aircraft carrier alone out there or maybe there were missile frigates or even subs out there and they lauched a missile.
