GOD’S RADICAL GRACE
A Testimony by Larry Blakey, given at Peace Church, Mesquite, TX, July 8, 2007
God has healed me of several major diseases throughout the years, so I decided to write it down for god’s glory and to help others to believe and receive thru the radical grace of God..
In 1989, I was diagnosed with colon cancer, resulting in the surgical loss of all but 15 cm of my colon. God allowed me to survive 15 years without reoccurrence.
In 1999, I developed a problem with my heart. I got out of my pool one evening , lay down on the deck and my heart stopped beating. I sat up quickly and it began to beat again. I decided to just believe God, therefore, I did not go to the doctor. I could not lie down to sleep, but for some time had to sleep with my knees on the floor, lying face down on the bed. A motorized bed that would raise my upper body, later allowed me to sleep in an awkward upright position. I would run tapes of healing scriptures day and night. My persistance (patience) in faith would eventually win out, although it did take some two or so years. You might say, “That’s a long time.” How long would I have been under a doctor’s care? Today, my heart beats with the rhythm of life and I have no heart, blood pressure or chloestoral problems. Thanks be to God for His radical grace.
In September 2004, I began to experience strange feelings and severe weakness in my body. I began to resist these in faith, but nothing seemed to be working. In June 2005, tests showed that I had an extremely low blood count, due to iron deficiency anemia, and received a transfusion of donor blood. During the search for the cause of the anemia, a colonoscopy and biopsy resulted in a diagnosis of more colon cancer. My doctor told me that an ostomy was the only way I could live. I refused that radical treatment, opting instead for the radical grace of God. I declared, “I will NOT have an ostomy.” (
Mark 11:23-24) After six months, I went back for more blood. A CBC test showed that my body was developing antibodies, which required cross matching by the Blood Bank. Eighteen months and twenty units of blood later, I felt worse than ever. I had not worked much in two years, and could hardly walk at certain times. I was too weak to make the trip to see my regular doctor, so at my wife’s suggestion, I agreed to go to a research hospital here in Dallas. On Friday, June 22, 2007, I had a CBC done locally, just to check my blood count, before going to the hospital. That doctor verified that my condition was very grave. He said, “Your condition is not compatible with life. You can die at any time. Legally, I’m supposed to call you an ambulance.” I said , “We’ll go straight to the hospital.”
After three days of tests and blood transfusion, several doctors came into my room. They said, “The good news is you have no cancer.” Praise God for His radical grace! “ The bad news is: Your days are numbered. Blood only lives for 120 days in your body, and when your blood wears out, we can’t give you any more, because it’s killing you. The antibodies in your blood are destroying the blood we gave you.” One doctor said, “ In Somalia, I saw someone with a blood count of two (2), but I’ve never seen anyone, in the USA, with a three (3), except you.
In the “Kell” blood group, researchers have isolated twenty-five antigen markers. Most people have three to five of those in their blood. My blood has all twenty-five antigen markers, therefore they could not find a good donor match for me. That’s why my body developed the antibodies, that were trying to kill me.
Certainly, the doctors were doing their best, but there just wasn’t a lot they could do. Two of my daughters, LaVonda and Darla, said to me, “Dad, this is not about you; not about what you have done, not about how much faith you have, not about how much you have prayed, or even how much scripture you can quote, (
Acts 3:12) it’s about HIM, and what HE did on the cross.” “Yes! Yes! That’s right.” I said. My focus changed right then and there. “Let’s take Communion, and remember Our Lord’s broken body and shed blood.” Like the woman (
Mk 5:29) with the issue of blood, I felt within my body, that I was healed of that plague. The next morning, Tuesday, doctors confirmed that my blood count had started rising and Wednesday I went home.
Praise God! It feels so good to feel good again! My appetite has returned! My hands are pink! My face has color again! My feet are warn and pink again! I’ve gone back to work. Thank you, Jesus for your radical grace!
