The Next General Superintendant of the UPC Will Be

Who?

Who do you believe will run and who will win?

The obvious canidates are;

Paul Mooney
David Bernard
Anthony Mangun

and of course Jerry Jones although I don't think he would get it.

I don't think anyone wants it more than JJ and PM. And out of respect - correct the spelling of "Barnard."

After several contested ballots, I think the Conference in 2012 will choose ... Marilyn Gazowsky!

AM, or maybe DB ... but I doubt PM would be.

When is the next election?

Maybe we could do the Catholic thing where an archbishop HAS to retire when he turns 75.

Personally, I would like to see Bro. Mooney as GS. I like his vision and passion, as well as his down to earth personality.

Not many big name preachers would be humble enough to refer to themselves as a "slob". Bro. Mooney seems to preach as who He is, not some alter ego.

In Texas campmeeting a few years ago, as He was preaching, there was a young boy there (maybe 7-8 years old), He gave Him a $5 dollar bill for "having to listen to me preach." So many preachers act like we should roll out the red carpet, get the limos, and reserved parking spaces ready, because they are coming to town. I don't and haven't seen that with Bro. Mooney. And in addition to his humility, He does have great vision. Again, I would personally love to see Him as GS. And I'm not even UPC.:D

I see AM and DB as the better choices. Both are humble, well balanced and articulate spokesmen.

AM well balanced? Humble? I don't know? When I was a young saint he was my favorite preacher.

I have since cooled to him, since everytime I hear him, as soon as he grabs a mic he starts screaming. I'm not against passionate preaching (obviously, or i would have remained a baptist), but I am worn out by such methods. Furthermore, I heard him say (at GC, I forget what year, 2001? 2002?) something along the lines of "when I say now, I want everyone in this building to speak in tounges........Now! and He goes to speaking in tounges (you hear the crowd noise speaking in tongues, He breaks in in english as says, "thats it, everyone speak in toungues, right now! right now!"

To me AM is the complete opposite of PM. Though he probably has a better chance to get it, my opinion is that that kind of thing is what's wrong with pentecost nowdays. To much showmanship, to much style, too little substance.

I like DB's intelectual stuff, but haven't ever heard Him preach, I've read several of his books, but he doesn't strike me as a "leader", just a good administrator.

Just my two cents.

If PM were to become the GS, I wonder how it would shift things since he leans kind of to the right if I understand correctly?

I have observed the same (without participation) and was appalled. And screaming... I don't get it when that happens.

I have only heard AM a few times. I was not really taking into account preaching style - though I guess one should.

Brings to mind another point... Must one be a "good preacher" to lead well. Certainly they need great oratory skills - but beyond that I am not sure if he needs to be a wonderful preacher.

Not sure excellent preaching is necessary ,although it is a side benefit. If you're GS, you Are a leader and imo this Is administration.

I've seen schools take excellent teachers and promote them to principals.
Good teachers are rare and much needed. The skill needed is administration.
But perhaps the brighter teachers are the only ones with either skill.
